Accessibility
statement.
What we have done, what we know is imperfect, and how to tell us when we have got it wrong.
Our aim
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That is the standard used by UK public bodies, and we hold ourselves to it because a storefront nobody can use is not a storefront.
What we have done
These are verified, not aspirational:
- Colour contrast. Every text colour in the palette exceeds the 4.5:1 minimum for body text. The lowest is 4.82:1; most sit above 8:1.
- Keyboard access. Every control is reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus ring. The cart and menus close with Esc.
- Skip link. A "Skip to content" link is the first focusable element on every page.
- Landmarks. Header, navigation, main and footer are marked up so screen readers can jump between them.
- Labelled controls. Every button, link and form field has an accessible name. Icon-only buttons carry text labels for assistive technology.
- Images. All images have alt text; decorative ones are correctly hidden from screen readers.
- Reduced motion. The animated background, cursor effects and transitions all switch off when your system asks for reduced motion.
- Language. Pages declare their language so screen readers pronounce content correctly.
Known problems
We would rather list these than pretend they do not exist.
- One heading level is skipped on the home page. It does not prevent access, but it makes navigating by headings less predictable. We are fixing it.
- The site is visually busy. There is an animated background and a good deal of motion. Reduced-motion settings turn this off, but if you find it uncomfortable and your system setting is not helping, tell us.
- We have not yet tested with real assistive technology. Our checks so far are automated and manual keyboard testing. We have not run a full screen-reader pass with NVDA, JAWS or VoiceOver, so there will be problems we have not found.
- No third-party audit. This statement is based on our own testing, not an independent assessment.
Telling us about a problem
If something on this site blocks you, we want to know — it is a bug, and we treat it as one. Contact us at hello@digitalden.shop and tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and what happened. If you use assistive technology, naming it helps us reproduce the problem.
We aim to reply within one working day and will tell you honestly whether and when we can fix it.
If we do not resolve it
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS), which advises on rights under the Equality Act 2010.
How this was assessed
Self-assessed by Digital DEN using automated checks (contrast ratios, alt text, accessible names, heading structure, landmarks) and manual keyboard testing on desktop Chrome. Last reviewed on the date above.
